TRACES-Stitched Ham

A development of my previous stitched scabs led me to experiment with other materials, such as ham. The combination of fabric and meat creates a rather uncomfortable and unnatural image, which adds to the ugliness of the subject.

Sshhhh!

Along side our Personal Best exhibition, we also held a Silent Auction on the night of the private view. This was a combination of donations from professional designers and illustrators, LCC tutors and work from our class. For my donation I decided to keep things simple with a cross-stitched letter "A" in a nice circus style typeface.

This went for £10 which I was pretty pleased with. Overall we managed to raise about £900 that evening, which was brilliant! A definate success and so much fun. Especially the after party at the local pub!

Me and my mum went on a winter walk on Boxing day, was a really gorgeous day. Took some nice pictures on my Canon A1. Am pleased they came out so crisp.

TRACES-Stitched Scabs

A series of stitched scabs and scars made from coloured felt and silk thread. They are suspended with fishing wire from wooden frames. These were featured in our Personal Best exhibition at the beginning of the Spring term.

TRACES-Skin

As I wrote my dissertation about skin, a natural development for this project turned to traces on the skin, such as scars and scabs. I started exploring the form and shapes of scabs, by drawing using a variety of materials, such as oil and chalk pastels, and coloured pencils.

TRACES-Christmas Trace

After the recent festivities, and a bit of an incident trying to remove the Christmas tree from our front room, the trace of Christmas became apparent to me.

When I came back to London, I noticed a Christmas tree recycling point in the park near my house. While the recycling is a positive thing, it did get me thinking about how wasteful Christmas really is. All the build up, and then, it's over.
